About Us

The South African Association of Pharmacists in Industry (SAAPI) is dedicated to empowering pharmacists working in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. Our members play a vital role in ensuring the supply of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines and medical devices.

SAAPI's Purpose

The South African Association of Pharmacists in Industry (SAAPI) exists to empower pharmacists and allied professionals across the pharmaceutical industry. We provide workshops, webinars and symposia, sharing best practices that help members deliver innovative solutions for medicines, medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics (IVDs) that comply with safety, efficacy, and quality standards. By strengthening knowledge and guiding improvements across the pharmaceutical lifecycle, SAAPI ensures patients have continued access to medicines, medical devices, and IVDs that are safe, effective, and of high quality.

With longstanding relationships with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the National Department of Health (NDoH) and other national and international stakeholders, SAAPI continues to engage meaningfully on matters that impact the pharmaceutical industry. Through these collaborations, we strengthen our members’ ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and contribute to a resilient healthcare system.

Who We Are

Founded in 1995, SAAPI is a sector of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) and operates as a membership association. We serve our members by offering workshops, symposia, and webinars on critical industry topics such as regulatory compliance, pharmacovigilance, quality assurance, medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics (IVDs). These events also address emerging trends in pharmaceutical innovation, ethics in industry practice and continuing professional development. Through these platforms, SAAPI actively shapes policy and scientific matters that influence the pharmaceutical industry.
